Ohaguro-bettari is a type of Yokai in japanese folklore. She tricks men into believing she was a beautiful young woman, dressing in fine clothing and turning her featureless face away until they approach her.
The sketch looked somewhat like the Joker in a bridal kimono, which is actually even creepier.
I drew the pattern myself, now I feel diligent, patient, and kind of stupid : | Shouldn't draw stuff without ref. The light makes no sense. But I wanna upload stuff, I've submitted like, 6 deviations in 2009. That's pretty sad.
Btw, I just now got myself a new blog. Nothing there yet but I'm working on it : D Here be link: [link]

In my opinion, the drawing is wonderful. I think (well on full view) we were all expecting a lovely young woman, dressed in a beautiful kimono, until, BAM! that lovely girl is suddenly a monster.
You get the beautiful pattern and light from the young woman, and yet you go further down to see the shadows and a smiling yokai.
It's a great portrait, and Ohaguro Bettari certainly does trick people, whether in person or portrait.
Good job
